Vancouver Port ILWU strike affecting USA goods

  • 17-20 ships parked off the port waiting to unload.
  • 5 ships have diverted to the USA
  • 116,076 twenty-foot-equivalent containers (TEU) are stranded.

The port strike in Vancouver continues to have knock-on effects on the supply chains similar to what we saw during COVID-19.

With the additional threat of action against UPS and truckers in engaged in actions against Amazon warehouses, things are looking snarled.

CN and CPKC are being affected as well as US carriers like Norfolk Southern who use the Vancouver Port through interconnects to Canada from the USA.

Shippers are going to see backlogs of goods where trains on tracks become storage. This will slow-down the entire network.
